Media Release
Keep up-to-date with EdNA Online RSS Feeds (27 May)
For immediate release 27 May 2004EdNA Online's RSS [Rich Site Summary] feeds, also known as news feeds, are now available to be added into your own website, portal or RSS reader, and are free to the education and training community.
EdNA Online's RSS feeds have been made available to complement the range of existing Shared Information Services. These Shared Information Services enable the information from the EdNA Online education and training service to be accessible directly from your own website. By adding these EdNA Online Services into your own website you can add value to the information that your own site delivers to your own users.
EdNA Online RSS Feeds are available for:
- News Headlines
- Recently Added Resources
- Browse Topics and Categories
- EdNA Online Search
RSS feeds contain lists of items, such as news headlines, each of which consists of a title and short description, in a format that allows integration into websites or desktop RSS readers. You can easily access more information about the item by linking to the item's source. To use these services you need a website or portal with the technology to support RSS feeds, or a desktop RSS reader.
RSS readers [news readers] are desktop applications that allow you to load and view the RSS feeds that you find useful. RSS readers are freely available from the Internet at sites such as TUCOWS.
To use these services, all you need to do is copy and paste the URL of the feed of interest to you and add it into your website's RSS feeds application or your desktop RSS reader.
A list of URLs is available from the The Developer's Kit.

Using the RSS feeds enables organisations to implement additional rich content for their users without major effort. Resources available via the RSS feeds is updated automatically because the information is sourced directly from EdNA Online. This enables you to keep up-to-date with the latest sector-specific news and resources as they are added to EdNA Online's database of quality assured web-based resources useful for teaching, learning and research. In addition to news headlines and recently added resources, the Higher Education Hot Topics and School Education Theme Pages are now available as RSS feeds.
"The RSS feeds service brings the latest from EdNA Online and the education and training community literally to your desktop. Now you can easily keep up-to-date with the latest quality assured news and information services from EdNA Online. This is a significant development in adding value to the range of services already offered by EdNA Online - a significant national project which is a joint initiative of all the states, territories and Australian Governments," says Gerry White, CEO of education.au, the agency that manages the EdNA Online project.
