EdNA Online offers free workshops to the Higher Education Sector to support teaching, learning and research (25 May)
EdNA Online (www.edna.edu.au) is offering free workshops to the higher education sector during July and August to demonstrate the services the EdNA Online project provides.
EdNA (Education Network Australia) Online is a national collaborative education project that supports the use of the Internet in teaching, learning and research activities.
The collaboration is a joint initiative of the state and territory governments, and the Australian Government, through their education and training departments and supports all sectors of education and training in the use of information and communication technologies.
The workshops will provide information about the free Shared Information Services provided by EdNA Online, as well as services that help support universities publicise and promote their achievements, conferences and events.
The Shared Information Services enable universities to use the quality assured content compiled by EdNA Online to support their own university, faculty, unit or course websites. The services include a search of quality assured databases, a recently added resource alert service, the ability to utilise EdNA categories, and higher education news headlines. Most of these services are also available as RSS feeds that can be incorporated into RSS readers.
The workshops will demonstrate how to use these services and provide case studies showing how universities are already using them.
"The take up of the Shared Information Services in the higher education sector has been very good," says Gerry White, CEO of education.au, the national ICT agency which manages EdNA Online. "Universities have limited resources. Smart universities are taking advantage of national projects, like EdNA Online, to support their own activities and provide additional benefits for their students, research, teaching and support staff."
The workshops will also provide information about how universities can promote their achievements, events and conferences.
"We compile the Higher Education Update, a weekly email newsletter which goes out to more than 1,000 higher education subscribers in universities, government departments, and peak bodies. It includes information about conferences, events, funding rounds, scholarships and grants as well as the achievements of individual higher education institutions," says Mr White. "It's the only service of its type in Australia and a must-read for the higher education sector."
EdNA Online also supports a number of event calendars relevant to the higher education sector. These include conferences in Australia and overseas, online conferences, and scholarships, grants and fellowships. These are available as XML services that can be delivered into other websites, or as RSS feeds into an RSS reader.
The workshops demonstrate how universities can take advantage of these services and how they can contribute information to promote their own university. All the services are free.
Workshops will be held in the following states:
- ACT - 25 July
- New South Wales - 8 August
- Queensland - 15 August
- South Australia and Northern Territory - 29 August
- Tasmania - 18 July
- Victoria - 1 August
- Western Australia - 22 August
Full details of dates, times and locations and the registration form are available at http://www.edna.edu.au/edna/page2739.html.
